Financial Aid
The PPD department offers merit-based funding to both master's and
Ph.D. students. Many Ph.D. students receive multi-year financial
support packages at the time of admission. Ph.D. students are supported
by fellowships, research assistantships, and teaching assistantships.
Our Ph.D. students also have received prestigious fellowships from
national organizations such as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development and the Lincoln Land Institute. Our master's students can
obtain attractive financial support that meets and often exceeds what
is available at competitor institutions. Master's students are eligible
for fellowships and for a limited number of teaching and research
assistantships.
Graduate students in planning, policy, and design have been recognized with numerous fellowships and awards, including:
American Planning Association, Orange County Chapter Student Paper Award
California Sustainable Leadership Fellowship
Eno Transportation Foundation Fellowship
Great Valley Center Fellowship
Lincoln Land Institute Fellowship
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Dissertation Award
Ben Stevens Dissertation Fellowship of the North American Regional Science Association
Fannie Mae Foundation Prize for Best Student Paper, Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning
Urban Affairs Association Emerging Scholar Award
FEMA Hazard Mitigation Planning Fellowship
Presidential Management Internship
In addition to departmental financial aid, the campus provides
opportunities for financial aid to both master's and Ph.D. students.
Information on these aid programs is available in the UCI General
Catalog. Forms and more detailed information are available at the
Financial Aid Office (949/824-8262).
Many master's students are supported through part-time employment or
internships at local public agencies and private consulting firms. Internships
offer invaluable hands-on experience and opportunities to establish
professional contacts. A variety of internships, both paid and unpaid,
are available through the department to master's students.
