At CIHS, we investigate interactions between human behavior, cognition, emotion and physiology and their impact upon health. We use a synthesis of advances in emerging and cutting-edge technology in our investigations. We apply these innovative approaches to questions regarding the effect of individual trait differences, both psychological and physiological, (e.g. mood, coping mechanisms, ethnicity, memory, pain perception, and cardiovascular, opiate, and immune system function) upon physical and mental well-being. Well beyond the use of these advances in assessment technology, we develop and implement ground-breaking approaches to health research methodology, embarking on studies both inside the laboratory and outside its walls into the daily lives of individuals, through the application of advanced ambulatory monitoring techniques. Incorporating a collaboration of researchers from myriad disciplines with the versatility of our research techniques allows us to fill gaps in the current body of health science knowledge, and to pose entirely new questions born from our work.
