Before the first day: New Hire Check List
Welcome aboard! We recommend you or your department manager to contact Social Ecology Computing Services support@soceco.uci.edu with the following information so we can anticipate your arrival.

Name, UCInetID, position, start date of the new Faculty member.
- If relevant and funding available; request a qoute for your new faculty computer and or lab computers.
Individual UCInetIDs are granted to each member of the faculty, staff, and student population at UCI. For the duration of your relationship with UCI, you will use your individual UCInetID regularly to access important online services, one example would be accessing email services.
Activate your UCInetID at http://activate.uci.edu as early as possible. Activation usually takes 24 hours to process.

Please note: Please do not share your UCInetID password with others. Your UCInetID provides access to your personal infoamtion including email, salary and benifit informaion, student records such as grades, etc hence protecting your UCInetID password is paramount.
Email Services: Eudora, Webmail, and Mailinglists
Network and Academic Computing Services provides email accounts for all faculty. Social Ecology recommends using POP email and the following email clients: UCI licensed Eudora, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Apple Mail.

Purchasing New Equipment
If you are planning on purchasing new computer equipment, please email Computing Services at support@soceco.uci.edu with specific details about what you would like to buy, and we will advise and/or prepare an e-quote.
Faculty Desktop Computing Initiative (FDCI)
The Faculty Desktop Computing Initiative (FDCI) was established in 1996 to foster a better research environment by improving the campus computing and communication infrastructure. The FDCI program supports the upgrade or purchase of research-related desktop or laptop computers, software, or networking equipment for individual faculty.

Receiving Technical Support
Please email (if your email is working) all problems and requests for help to support@soceco.uci.edu. Please email the support account instead of our individual tech support staff emails. This allows us to better track calls,and also share the work. In addition it allows another team member to receive and handle requests if one of us is out sick or on vacation. Electronic Educational Environment
The Electronic Educational Environment is UC Irvine's course management system. Established in 1995, it provides many tools for enhancing instruction and managing course information via the web.

Campuswide faculty profiles
The campuswide faculty profile system is a resource designed to help faculty develop sources of support for their work and to increase accessibility for collaborators, students and the community.

Faculty web pages
The School of Social Ecology provides faculty web pages where you may provide information about your research, upload your photo and CV among other things.

Statistical Softwares
SPSS: Faculty members can purchase SPSS for university owned machines at a discounted price. These SPSS licenses are renewed each year in June. The pricing also fluctuates each year ranging from $45-$65 per license per year.
SAS: Faculty members can purchase SAS for university owned machines at a discounted price. These SAS licenses are renewed each year in June. The pricing also fluctuates each year around $40 per license per year. A home use license agreement is also available.

Webfiles
Webfiles is a file storage system provided by Network & Academic Computing Services (NACS) to faculty, staff and graduate students at UCI. The system provides 1 Gigabyte of disk space that allows you to store copies of important documents (e.g. homework, notes, papers, theses, dissertations, graphics). In addition to storing private files, you may also use this space to publish a personal home page and collaborate with colleagues.
