I was born in 1971 and am married and have triplet daughters. I am also a quadriplegic as the result of a car accident in 1991. In my personal life, my interests revolve around having fun in the sun with my family and friends. Among my many academic interests are parole, policing, organizational reform, and juvenile waiver policies.

I graduated with honors from the University of California, Irvine in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in Criminology, Law & Society. My senior honors thesis was on fraud and abuse in the securities industry. I began my graduate career interested in white-collar crime, but I soon became involved with a research team examining disability issues in criminal justice. The research culminated in my second year project on implementing the Americans With Disabilities Act in the criminal justice system. I recently completed a grant from the California Department of Corrections that allowed me to examine and describe a parole reentry program in California. This research is the basis for my dissertation on organizational reform in police and parole agencies.
